Captngeetch: Not bad...about a $1 a piece1304129174225
Furore23: It's not that bad - certainly never as bad as the whiny abolitionists think. But! Tourism income for large events is never as much or as productive as is claimed, and tourism itself TENDS TO COST MONEY, in the form of clean-up, lost productivity elsewhere, resources consumed (eg fuel). Tourism is an inherently parasitic element in any economy, it's supposed benefits are illusory.1304134386347
Furore23: All in all, Britain WOULD be economically better off without the monarchy, but that isn't a simple process. From altering the constitution and centuries of legislation, right down to changing uniforms/stationery/signage/etc throughout the country, it would take a decade of concerted effort to do. And over that time period, the cost of the change would outweigh the cost of maintaining the monarchy.1304134523238
Weed: Kind off makes Sweden seem f*cking retarded.1304167770993
Furore23: ^ Well...1304171856888
Captngeetch: ^^ tourist benefits the small business owner more so than others...and that IS a plus1304265984312
Furore23: Look, no question there are benefits to tourism... just not so much the one-off event types. Ask anyone from an Olypmpic host city - a firehose of money that lasts ten seconds, whatever you can swallow you keep! But most will go down the gutters.1304268579173
anonymule: < ^ lives in an olympic host city, you ain't lying. On the other hand, Atlanta, Ga. has is current success to thank for the olympics. It's sort of a double edged sword, I think. Personally, I'm not a fan of tourism, but for some places around the world, it's the only way to eek out a living. I would like to visit the UK, as tourist one day myself so....meh1304275731929
Captngeetch: ^ and Amsterdam too1304281266492
Furore23: There's tourism and tourism. Travelling, seeing places, meeting people, that's one thing. Tourism treated as a means of support, with mass-produced souveneirs and government backing? That's economic parasitism.1304347058936
MrPerspective: By this logic, the faanatic terrorists targeting Egypt's tourism must be saints then? (Yeah, I *AM* in a trolling mood. ;-)1307157034707
Anonymous: Bargain. I'd gladly pay £10 to see Kate's tits.1332721752561
bshaun2: I just wanted to say good luck, we're all counting on you1355466002707
bshaun2: I just want to tell you both good luck. We're all counting on you.1355466122573
