MrPerspective: I'm... pretty convinced that they learned the child rape from them catholic priests. As for the rest... I see no glory in having invented "advanced killing tools". Just my two dinars there.
Furore23: Forty thousand years and NOTHING. Hell with 'em. They're just a dead-end.
MrPerspective: Oh? Like modern life is better "in a cosmic perspective"? Sure thing, if you enjoy inflation, unemployment, capitalistic exploitation of the masses, smog, traffic jams, industrial junk food, massive cancer-inducing chemical pollution, urban insecurity, international terrorism, Big Brother, moral tyranny of bigoted televangelists and American Idol.
MrPerspective: "Sure, the Outsiders do die younger. But THEY ALSO LIVE LONGER." -- (Ira Levin, "This Perfect Day")
Furore23: Yes, space travel and penicillin prove stone age assholes to be completely wrong.
MrPerspective: I'm just saying we Westerners have done more rhan our fair share of "modern" fucking up, over the centuries. Say what you like things like slaveries or birth-based discrimination are just wrong. Colonialism was never about sincerely helping "the savages", just about exploitation and supremacy of the strongest/most aggressive. The law of the jungle, in reality!
MrPerspective: Or, to rephrase my intention, "the white man" had no effing right to brag about being and having acted "all civilized and shit". At best, MAYBE, we are "less bad".
Anonymous: the native american has been credited with this comment also...
Furore23: No, we're better because we have electricity and ethics. Australian native cultures have nothing, did nothing, and remain useless.
MrPerspective: We have ethics... and also double standards, don't we? There's always someone that's our "inferior" to look down upon. As for electricity... would you accept getting conquered by Romulan slavers just because they have warp engines?... Hitler's military technology was once superior too, but he was STILL a fucking jerk.
Furore23: We're better, because we have moved forward. Western culture came up with pluralism, democracy, the scientific method, and all the other vital progressive movements. Stone age tribes sitting around for tens of thousands of years, for WHATEVER reason, are not worth preserving.
MrPerspective: Sorry, F-man, but there are SO many things wrong with your arguments. In random order: *Less urbanized humans aren't wort preserving (I was more into "leaving well enough alone in the first place"), when we feel ashamed of endangering mindless animal species? This sounds a bit racist. *Most human progress came very long ago, either from Ancient Greece, or less so from China. Google "Solon"...
MrPerspective: *"We have moved forward"? Really? With human lives becoming a mere trading good, and getting closer to legalized slavery by corporations? Or with the world's best free nations wanting to arm jihadists in Syria just because they've picked another dictator they suddenly stopped tolerating, "strictly for ethical reasons"? Have you heard of the planned theft on citizens' hard-earned savings in Cyprus?
MrPerspective: I say, let us first clean our OWN house. Australian aboriginals, or Native Americans, are but a vague shadow of their once carefree culture which the bigoted, exploitative White Man relentlessly destroyed because "these savages didn't chant the name of Jesus". Read History: Australia got populated as a PENITENTIARY COLONY. With England's criminals. That's like sending Bin Laden's holy men...
MrPerspective: ...to populate Hawaii "and save their heathen nekkid souls from the ignorance of Allah". EVERYTHING got real ugly AFTER the White Man came meddling where he had no goddamn fucking business. Bringing booze and body shame and destroying natural resources and confiscating hunting lands. So please, I ask you respectfully, don't come and tell me we ever meant to HELP those people by stealing their land
Clearly, I can muster more furor in one of my eyelashes than there's perspective in both your eyes. You know what? I give up! Stay within the comfort of your noble certainties. Good for you. The world is a comedy to he who knows, and a tragedy to he who thinks. Or vice versa. Whatever. At least YOU are blissfully happy with the Universe and your place in it. Don't change a thing.
Greeft: Just because you believe a stone age culture is not worth preserving, does that give you the right to commit genocide and actively wipe it out?
Greeft: "Fuck these hydrocarbon age cultures, all they do is rape and pollute their planets. They deserve to be destroyed and made into an hyperspatial express route!" Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz
MrPerspective: ^ Precisely. Why care about a few lazy-ass pandas or dumb gorillas? Because we claim to have ethics. And perspective of the thinking mind. That's reason enough.
NonComposMentis: Actually that was a terrible justification for destroying the environment. Animals like pandas and gorillas keep the balance of nature in tact. Pandas eat bamboo (which consumes much of any environment it grows in by an inch a day), and the african red dogs feed off the pandas, thus more animals killing the african red dogs is a good thing in that it prevents spreading canine aids.
NonComposMentis: ..I believe I made my point when mentioning the balance of nature, however animal species play a large role in the success of human growth and nature's cycle.
NonComposMentis: In any case, the arguments of pollution and endangered species (that were on the planet before we were) is irrelevant to the image.
MrPerspective: Then again, that image is made purely of text, so... relevance is relative. And really, aunts are relatives!
Furore23: Genocide involves killing people. No one wants that. Well, no one who counts.
Greeft: Animals like pandas do fuck all for anything, even themselves. They are at an evolutionary dead end. They feed on one very specific, hard to digest low energy yield diet, they are very shy and solitary creatures and the females are only fertile for 2-3 days every year. They were fucked before we started screwing with them and we should spend that money helping animals that can be saved.
